Projektziel

To contribute to alleviate the suffering and restore dignity of people affected by the conflict in Tigray (SDGs 1,2,3,4,5,6,17).

Specific objectives: 1. Vulnerable IDPs and host communities have improved ability to cope with the consequences of the conflict and sustain their lives; 2. Women and girls affected by the conflict have increased their resilience against the consequences of the conflict.

Erwartete Ergebnisse

The overall objectives shall be achieved through the following results.

R1.1: 2,570 households (52% female-headed households) are able to meet their basic human needs & improve their household income.

R1.2: 1,050 (52% girls) are able to maintain their school attendance.

R2.1: 1,500 women and girls have access to PSS and sanitary pads.

R2.2: 491 female-headed households are provided with urgently needed clothing.

Zielgruppe

a) Target group: 36,570 individuals (at least 52% women) will directly benefit from the planned intervention. 95,430 (52% are women or girls) will benefit from the rehabilitated water schemes.

b) Implementing partner of the applicant: Ethiopian Catholic Church Social & Development Commission (ECC-SDCO)

c) Exact location: 2 districts, Irob and Subhasaesie in the East of Tigray Regional State.

Maßnahmen

The objectives shall be achieved via the following activities. Act. R1.1: Provision of supplementary food to malnourished under five children; Food aid, provision of NFIs and Cash transfer to vulnerable HHs. Act. Act. R1.3: Distribution of school snack. Act. R2.1: Provision of psychosocial support/group counselling to victim women & girls; Provision of sanitary pads. Act. R2.2: Provision of clothing.

Hintergrundinformation

The Tigray War broke out in November 2020 at a time when Ethiopia was already facing multiple crises caused by regional displacements, a desert locust infestation, food insecurity and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the Federal Government's announcement on November 28, 2020 about the end of the war, hostilities are ongoing in different parts of the region. Up to today the humanitarian situation in Tigray region remains highly tense and volatile. The proposed intervention will be implemented in Tigray Regional State. The targeted woredas of Tigray are known for their food insecurity even in normal times, as they are the most degraded and rugged topographies in the Eastern Tigray Zone. This situation has worsened due to the war. Although humanitarian access remains difficult in general, project activities in these areas are possible and the National Defense force accompanies the convoys in those areas considered risky in order to avoid any sort of attacks.
