Projektziel

In response to the immediate impacts of COVID-19, the health sector is supported with critical supplies and equipment, and most vulnerable individuals and families assisted with food and hygienic packages.

The programme is set up as an engagement facility, with the objective to respond to immediate needs of institutions and people with interventions that address the impact of COVID-19 through provision of medical equipment, diagnostics, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and humanitarian aid to vulnerable individuals and families with essential food and hygienic items.

Erwartete Ergebnisse

1. 50 mobile ventilators to be delivered to the Ministry of Health in May 2020

2. 30,000 (including 9,000 through ADA contribution) testing kits provided to Kosovo’s Institute of Public Health

3. Up to 10,000 masks, pairs of gloves, hand sanitizers delivered for frontline workers of Kosovo Police and the Emergency Management Agency.

4. 4,000 families receive humanitarian support (food and hygienic items)

Zielgruppe

In total 9,000 persons are direct beneficiaries:

- Hospitalized patients affected by COVID-19;

- Individuals subject to testing (current testing capacity: 500 tests / day); Individuals subject to treatment for COVID-19 and frontline workers; persons who were in contact with confirmed cases;

- 4,000 vulnerable individuals. Families and individuals based on criteria such as: single parent or/ and women female-headed households, non-majority, people with disability, non-recipients of the Social Assistance Scheme

Maßnahmen

Procurement of detection and extraction test kits:

The project will provide 9,000 testing (detection and extraction) kits to the University Clinical Centre in Prishtina, to support the Ministry of Health in the efficient localization of the hot spots of the epidemic and for better projection and planning. The University Clinical Centre has capacity to perform up to 500 tests on a daily basis with its current equipment. 9,000 testing kits will be sufficient to cover the diagnostics of patients for more than one month.

Hintergrundinformation

As of 29 April, Kosovo has 790 confirmed cases of COVID-19 including 22 deaths. The crisis has clearly demonstrated the fragility of Kosovo’s health care system and the need to focus on prevention to a large extent. The Ministry of Health is expecting a range of supplies, among which the testing kits are of most priority.
