Establishment of Community Development Unit
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
The community development unit is one of the four units of the Institute for Development Studies (IDS) and was established to create a vibrant and active link between the many development resources being offered at the Institute, and the community.
On an academic level in Gaza particularly, there appears to be a great lack of thorough training in practical and theoretical development, which could be resulting in minimal impact on the benefits received by the community. Development practitioners specially women are finding difficulties in enriching their knowledge and skills through specialised training courses that give background, perspective and strength to the work they are conducting on the ground. There is very little community participation in local projects, and often the community reaps the effects only at the finalisation of the project without being an integral and imperative part of the project implementation. Moreover, there needs to be a stronger collaboration between smaller NGOs, in order to pool their knowledge and be able to carry out more effective and beneficial community projects.
The aim of the project is to improve the quality of grassroots projects, initiatives and political development strategies being elaborated in Palestine by linking the theory with the practice, and linking developmental research, studies and training to the actual and identified needs of the community.
