Food Security Project in Gamo Gofa, Äthiopien
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
The project is situated in the South Western part of Ethiopia and addresses the Gamo people, one of the most neglected/marginalized minority groups living in the highlands. The area is known for its "green famine", which means that despite seemingly green fields and sufficient rains, agricultural production is so low that it leaves people with food shortages for about 50% of the year. The specific area is characterized by fragmented farmland and small land holding, steep slopes, heavy soil erosion and traditional communities who are not familiar with improved food production and utilization technology.
Against this backdrop, the overall objective of the project is to contribute to the reduction of rural poverty in Gamo Gofa / Ethiopia by ensuring household food security. The project aims at enhancing the efforts of local communities to improve food access and food utilization and at empowering communities to be more productive and gain more experience in disaster management. The following results are expected through the project:
Result 1: Improved food security in the target communities;
Result 2: Enhanced utilization of available foodstuffs;
Result 3: Improved productive capacity of the target communities;
Result 4: Significant contributions by women to food security at the household level;
Result 5: Improved capacities with target communities and the local government to ensure efficient implementation of food security programmes.
