Projektziel

The overall project objective contributes to the reduction of preventable, communicable diseases and to improve health facilities in Venezuela.

Specifically, its aim is that the ability of most vulnerable individuals to meet their health and hygiene needs and of health facilities to provide basic health services in target areas is enhanced.

Erwartete Ergebnisse

1. 94.000 vulnerable individuals, including women, girls, elderly and people with disabilities have improved access to relief items (hygiene and health) in the target areas

2. Up to 40.000 men, women and children in the target area have increased access to medically needed x-ray examinations in 4 selected health facilities

Zielgruppe

Vulnerable households and individuals in Caracas and bordering area to Colombia, Brazil and Guyana, including young mothers, their children and elderly people who remained in Venezuela while other family members left the country

- Vulnerable migrants including unaccompanied minors, pregnant women and women travelling alone

In total up to 134.000 individuals will profit from the ADA grant.

Total number of direct beneficiaries receiving relief goods: 94.000 individuals

• 19.000 individuals will profit from hygiene kits

• 75.000 individuals will receive a mosquito net

Additionally, 4 hospitals will be supported with each one x-ray machines, supporting diagnosis in radiological facilities of a maximum of 40.000 individuals per year.

The Venezuelan Red Cross (VRC) has provided humanitarian assistance in Venezuela for 124 years, with about 2,600 volunteers across the country, 24 branches and 1,400 staff members, doctors and nurses. Furthermore, the VRC has 8 hospitals and 33 outpatient clinics/ health centers throughout the country

Caracas and the border provinces to Colombia (Techira, Apure, Zulia) as well in the bordering provinces to Brazil and Guyana (Bolivar). Based on the ongoing assessments of VRC, distribution can take place as well around the RC supported hospitals.

Procurement and distribution of 19.000 Hygiene kits, 75.000 Mosquito nets and 4 x-ray machines.

Hintergrundinformation

The national context has had an impact on the provision of basic services, supply and reserve of foreign currency, as well as access to fundamental goods and services. Around 3.4 Million people have left the country already due to the socio-economic situation and political tensions in the country. The worsening public health system is not able to cope with the health needs of the population. Malaria and other vector borne diseases are rising and crucial public water services have been discontinued which lead to an increased number of water-borne diseases. Furthermore, the situation of hygiene in country shows a marked deterioration and poor households do not have the financial means to cover their basic needs in WASH.
