Humanitarian Assistance for Refugees from Syria and Jordanian Host Communities
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
Since the beginning of the current crisis in Syria more than 500.000 refugees have arrived in Jordan, according to recent UNHCR statistics. Around 40.000 more refugees are reported to be stranded on the border waiting to get into Jordan. By the end of June 2013, almost 150.000 individuals had been registered with Caritas Jordan.
In recent months needs in Jordan were changing. Before, needs centered mainly on Food and Non-Food Items such as hygiene and household items. Given the fact that many organizations concentrate their aid around food aid and hygiene sets, this is not a highly pressing need anymore. At the moment the priorities of the refugees from Syria center around shelter and winterization . Thus, these two areas have been defined as the priority areas of intervention for the coming months and have also been taken up by Caritas with this project.
The overall goal of this intervention is to enable vulnerable Syrian refugees (outside of camps) to access secure and healthy dwelling conditions and to ensure the safety and well-being of the refugees and Jordanian host communities during the winter months. Specifically, the project aims to reach the following results:
• 3,000 vulnerable families (refugees from Syria, as well as Jordanian host community members) use thermal clothing to ensure their dignity, health and well-being during the winter season. They are being supported with thermal clothes vouchers for the winter season.
• 500 families out of these 3000 live in improved shelter conditions ensuring safe sanitation, access to water and a healthier and safer living environment. They will be supported with shelter maintenance/repair activities.
Caritas Jordan is coordinating closely with relevant stakeholders on the governmental level, on UN level and with international NGOs.
