Humanitarian Assistance for Sahrawi Refugees in Tindouf, South-Algeria
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
UNHCR's role in southern Algeria is to provide international protection and multi-sectoral care and maintenance assistance for some 125,000 Sahrawis living in refugee camps in Tindouf. In this context, it is the overall objective of this project to improve the living conditions of Sahrawi refugees through activities in the Health and nurtition sectors.
The Austrian contribution contributes to the UNHCR's annual program in the Tindouf camps. With the donation of the Austrian Development Cooperation, UNHCR intends to support health and nutrition activities in all four camps (Awserd, Dakhla L'aayoune and Smara). In the health sector there is mainly support of the Supplementary Feeding Programme. The programme targets moderately malnourished children under five, as well as pregnant and lactating women. The equipments will be procured by Triangle Génération Humanitaire who, with UNCHR, has a medical programme.
In the health sector UNHCR provides through its partner "Enfants Refugies du Monde-Pays de la Loire" support to the Nursing School through a series of capacity development activities, including training courses for nurses, chief nurses and midwives, as well as the dissemination of teaching materials and the provision of hygienic products. Since 1992, 165 people graduated as nurses after completing 1,791 hours of teaching and 3,880 hours of internship and 25 midwives graduated after 1,200 hours of teaching and 300 hours of internship. In 2010, with ADA support, 68 people will pursue their nursing programme and 12 their midwives studies.
