Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
Since the beginning of the military operation “Serval” on 11th of January 2013 in Mali to fight the Islamist insurgents some 5.000 new refugees, mostly women with children arrived in neighbouring Burkina Faso. By 3rd of March 2013 the total number of Malian refugees in Burkina Faso reached 47,871 (compared to 22,974 one year ago) of which about 16.057 are living in the Province of Soum in Camp Mentao (13,042) and Camp Damba (3,015). This project focuses on these newly arrived refugees in Camp Mentao and Camp Damba as well as on the subsistence farmers neighbouring Camp Mentao.
The key objectives of the project are:
1. To enhance the living conditions of newly arrived Malian refugees in Camp Mentao and Camp Damba and
2. To protect the livelihood of the agro-pastoralist households in the adjacent villages to the refugee camps.
The project aims to achieve the following results:
Result 1: The basic humanitarian needs of newly arrived Malian refugees in Camp
Mentao and in Camp Damba are met by a food and non-food items support.
Result 2: The means of subsistence of agro-pastoralists of the 8 villages neighbouring
the refugee Camp Mentao in the Commune de Djibo are reinforced.
Result 3: An exit strategy is in place for the 10 villages hosting (until now) the refugee
camp Damba in the Commune rurale de Nassoumbou, which is about to be closed.
The proposed action will benefit 14,538 people in the project area, i.e. 4,403 newly arrived Malian refugees in Camp Mentao, 415 newly arrived Malian refugees in Camp Damba, and 8,100 local agro-pastoralists.
