The International Crisis Group (ICG) is recognised as a leading independent source of analysis and advice to policymakers on the prevention and resolution of deadly conflicts.The overall goal is to a) inform conflict prevention, management and resolution efforts through independent research and analysis, b) to contribute to change through sharpened policy prescriptions for conflict prevention and c) to shape the international debate regarding what it means to prevent, respond to and resolve deadly conflict in the 21st century.

Erwartete Ergebnisse

In pursuing this goal, ICG promotes greater awareness and enhanced understanding on the part of national governments, including Austria, the UN, the EU and other regional and international organisations – as well as civil society, the media and the general public – of emerging and actual conflict risks and of the underlying dynamics and root causes of specific situations of conflict. Furthermore, concerted political will to take concrete, coordinated and effective steps to prevent, contain and resolve deadly conflict and readiness on the part of conflict actors to consider new ideas and/or take steps that contribute to conflict prevention or de-escalation and/or support a political process that can lead to sustainable peace are expected. Finally, reduced harm in terms of lives lost, casualties suffered, people forced to flee home or country, and damage to local infrastructure and economies is expected.

Expected outputs of this project are:

-Up to 110 detailed reports and briefings, including several hundred separate policy recommendations.

-Some 500 commentaries, including op-eds, conflict alerts, policy statements, interactive presentations, etc.

-24 issues of CrisisWatch.

-Several thousand written/oral briefings, roundtable meetings and policy seminars with senior officials, diplomatic representatives and lawmakers in crisis areas and key capitals.


The main target groups include the government, the parliament, political parties, the military, relevant state ministries, the media, local and international civil society groups, foreign ministries and embassies, and other relevant intergovernmental or supranational bodies with responsibility and capacity to respond to actual or potential conflicts, including the UN and the EU.The main intended final beneficiaries are 500 millions of civilians (thereof 0,8% of ADC funding represent 4 million people) , especially women and children, living in conflict-affected situations of crisis or emerging crisis.


ICG’s methodology focuses on three key activities: a) conduct expert field research and analysis, offering fresh policy recommendations; b) carry out targeted advocacy and effective policy engagement and c) communicate analysis and policy ideas through various means.


ICG was founded in 1995 with a presupposition that most key advocacy would be required in Brussels, New York and Washington D.C. Later on ICG has expanded its presences around the world, including offices in Bishkek, Bejing, Bogota, Dakar, Islamabad, Istanbul, London, and Nairobi to allow for a more integrated approach to engagement, advocacy and outreach for the prevention and resolution of deadly conflicts.

  • Sektor: bezeichnet den wirtschaftlichen oder sozialen Sektor des Partnerlandes, welcher mit dem Projekt/Programm unterstützt wird.
  • Tied/Untied: Ungebundene (untied) Hilfe ermöglicht dem Projektpartner im Entwicklungsland - unter Befolgung der lokalen Beschaffungsregeln - freie Entscheidung über die Herkunftsländer im Zuge der Beschaffung von Dienstleistungen und Waren. Gebundene (tied) Hilfe verknüpft die Hilfsleistung auf die Beschaffung aus dem Geberland oder aus einem eingeschränkten Kreis von Ländern.
