Hintergrundinformation

Burkina Faso faces terror and violent extremism, intercommunal violence, and the gradual erosion of state legitimacy as a result of the activities of several armed opposition groups. Increases in poverty, inflation and natural disasters have led to the worst humanitarian crisis in its history, with 4.7 million people in need of assistance, including 697,000 persons with disabilities, and 2,062,534 internally displaced people (IDPs) in 2023. Among the regions receiving these IDPs, Centre-East is one of the most affected ones by the worsening security crisis. At the same time, few actors are present to address to growing humanitarian needs.
