Projektziel

The project will be implemented in the village of Warab, located nearby the regional capital of Wau in Northern Bahr El Ghazal. The village has been selected for project intervention, since it consists of a great number of returnees streaming back from other parts of the country. Being a relatively "newly structured village" it hosts a variety of every-day problems which continuously aggravate the families' existence (both returnees and hosts).

The project's overall objectives are two-fold: On the one hand, the current project aims at improving the present health and hygiene situation in the village of Warab in Northern Bahr El Ghazal, Southern Sudan. To achieve these goals, the project tries to replicate the positive results achieved in previous interventions by setting up a network of health and hygiene promoters (HHPs). These health volunteers will be trained in community health issues (e.g. early recognition of symtoms) and assist in general project monitoring. Moreover, awareness raising campaigns will contribute to an increased health understanding of the target population. On the other hand, the project further intends to minimize the risk towards seasonal food shortages. Especially over the past months (pre-harvest months), food shortages are common. Finally, the project also aims to strengthen the capacities of public health workers through the conduction of training courses related to community-based health care.
