Projektziel


Severe droughts are recurrent phenomenons in the Horn of Africa Traditional coping mechanisms are becoming increasingly ineffective owing to a variety of reasons (e.g. population growth, armed conflict). The proposed project addresses food insecurity of communities severely and repeatedly affected by droughts through a long term sustainable intervention.


The project area in the North-Easter province, Mandera – east district, Khalalio and Harere Division (see map) is one of the regions in Kenya most severely affected by the drought 2011 (e.g. Long Rains Assessment (LRA) of the Kenya Food Security Steering group (KFSSG), 26.7.-2.8.2011;).


The project follows an integrated approach to reach its specific objective of helping 3000 beneficiaries (mainly subsistence farmers and pastoralists drop outs) in Khalalio and Harere Divisions to recover from the drought 2011 and improve their resilience for further droughts and it will contribute to the reduction of poverty of population in Kenya (overall objective).


The project comprises components of

1.) increased and sustainable agricultural production (result 1),

2.) improved health and nutritional status of the most affected (result 2),

3.) flood protection (result 3) and

4.) Capacity building for KRCS staff and volunteers (result 4).

  • Sektor: bezeichnet den wirtschaftlichen oder sozialen Sektor des Partnerlandes, welcher mit dem Projekt/Programm unterstützt wird.
  • Tied/Untied: Ungebundene (untied) Hilfe ermöglicht dem Projektpartner im Entwicklungsland - unter Befolgung der lokalen Beschaffungsregeln - freie Entscheidung über die Herkunftsländer im Zuge der Beschaffung von Dienstleistungen und Waren. Gebundene (tied) Hilfe verknüpft die Hilfsleistung auf die Beschaffung aus dem Geberland oder aus einem eingeschränkten Kreis von Ländern.
