Livelihood Improvement through Sustainable Resource Management in North Gondar

Projektziel
The overall objective is the improvement of livelihood opportunities and resilience of selected rural communities in North Gondar through sustainable resource management.
The first pillar 'Natural resource management' compromises e.g.
- Integrated Watershed Management
- Rural Land Administration
- Participatory Forest Management
- Support of National Park Infrastructure and Tourism Development
The second pillar 'Livelihood improvement' addresses food security e.g. through improved livestock and crop development and through value chain development.
The third pillar 'Program management and capacity building' gives emphasis to participatory planning and joint monitoring, linkages between research, extension and farmers (e.g. testing soil conservation structures, promotion of indigenous fodder trees), human resource development, knowledge management and gender mainstreaming. Expected exemplary results are:
- improved access to rehabilitated land
- 25000 households increased income by 30%
- Improved forest management
- 1900 households profited from off-farm activities
The program has been developed in accordance with the objectives of the national Growth and Transformation Plan. The poor rural population is the main beneficiary. The program management consists of steering committees at regional, zonal and district levels. The Project Coordination Unit provides overall coordination and backstopping. Funds are transferred to the Regional Bureau of Finance and Economic Development (BoFED). Besides BoFED major implementing partners are the Bureau of Agriculture, the Bureau of Environmental Protection, Land Administration and Use, the Amhara Regional Agricultural Research Institute, the Bureau of Culture, Tourism and Parks Development, the Ethiopian Wildlife Development and Conservation Authority and the Cooperatives Promotion Agency.
