Projektziel

The Austrian support to Tanzanian dairy sector started in 1994/95 by promoting improved milk collection, processing and marketing in Dar es Salaam and Coast Zones, and started two years later also in Lake Zone, Mara Region. This one-year exit phase will make sure that the services provided so far can be continued in a commercialised form or at least do not rely on a one-donor subsidy after the project end in December 2005.

Over the past years the project has tested and facilitated various products to stimulate and improve business development services. The most promising types of services will be optimised during the exit year: Business and entrepreneurship training, services for market development, such as business plan, business advice and studies / surveys, promotion of appropriate dairy technology and sales and promotion events on behalf of private or public players. In addition the financial services available to milk chain actors will be optimised, a diversified range of financial products will be offered.

At the same time the project strengthens dairy stakeholders´ organisations on various levels through advocacy and lobbying for dairy and livestock related policies and gives support to Tanzania Dairy Board. The process of promoting and offering Gender-sensitive and environmental friendly products and modalities will continue in 2005.

The exit phase will be used to transform from an organisation whose vital functions are supported by a donor country to a service provider that is safely and sufficiently established in the market, management and institutional set-up have to be strengthened and adapted.
