Mine Action Project Sofala
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
This project is aimed at contributing to the improvement of Mozambique's socio-economic development environment through the fulfillment of Country commitments under article 5 of the Ottawa treaty. Activities include
a) Deployment of multi-skilled mine action teams (data gathering & reporting, socio-economic impact assessment, demining/EOD, Mine Risk Education/signalization) into 12 districts of Inhambane, Sofala and Manica Provinces;
b) Concentration of mine action assets in clearance tasks more suitable to HI capacities, with introduction of an innovative explosives detection technology through the use of trained rats;
c) Signalize Mined Areas for later clearance, reducing the risk of accidents by conducting Mine Risk Education in the local communities.
At last, the mines/UXOs situation of the remaining districts will be known and included in the national database, contributing Mozambique's overall commitment to the Ottawa Treaty. The proposed action will last for 12 months and will benefit around 3,500,000 inhabitants of the 3 provinces potentially affected by the threat of mines.
