Namibia: Community Based Tourismus für Nordwest-Region, Mid Term Review EZA Projekt 1889-01/2002

NACOBTA's work in the region is built on the previous work supported by the Austrian Development Co-operation in developing the North West Tourism Master Plan and in Phase II the North West Tourism Options Plan (development of 10 conservancy tourism option plans). This tourism planning forms the framework within which tourism development takes place in the North West region. Work will also be integrated with that of other key stakeholders and service providers.
The focus of this project is on supporting activities that will lead to the development of sustainable enterprises including joint venture tourism lodges, mid-market lodges, campsites, information centres, tour guide groups, traditional/cultural villages and craft outlets. In addition the project makes provision for the completion of up to 20 conservancy tourism option plans for new and emerging conservancies in the region.
The project runs for three years from July 2002 to June 2005 with an overall budget of ¿ 836.000,-- and is now at the end of its 2 project year. ADA is commissioning this mid term review to assess the performance and achievements of the project. The findings and recommendations of this mid term review will serve for
- the Austrian Development Co-operation as updated context information for discussion the engagement in community based tourism in Namibia
- Nacobta as an external view of their performance in the given context
- Nacobta as basis for the detailed planning of the last project year.
The consultants' team for this mid term review will consist of
- Reinprecht & Reinprecht OEG (Michael Reinprecht), Sector Consultant SME Austrian Development Co-operation
- the other team member proposed by ÖNSI/Nacobta
with Michael Reinprecht leading the team.
