Projektziel

The project purpose is to enhance accountability for improved legal and social service delivery and protection of the rights of women and girls. Project implementation will be for 3 years in four districts of Acholi sub region (Lamwo, Agago, Pader and Kitgum) in Northern Uganda.

This project will have a critical focus on the four sectors of justice, water, education and health to enhance accountability and responsiveness to gender and women’s rights issues.

The action will target 300 duty bearers, 80 traditional leaders, 60 women councilors and 4 district women networks with a total comprising of about 80 community based/non-governmental organizations. At least 2 local communities in each of the selected sub counties will be reached through organized platforms with a minimum of 100 men and women, female and male youth as well as local leaders.

The project activities will amongst others include monthly community outreaches to sensitize communities on service delivery; media engagements through 80 radio spot messages, monthly community radio shows as well as radio talk shows with duty bearers on promotion of women’s rights, justice and accountability in service delivery; capacity building of 60 participants from women networks and 80 representatives of the youth on advocacy, social accountability and government processes; development and printing of 1000 copies of a training manual on gender and justice (for use in formal and traditional justice systems) and a training of 40 judicial officers on gender and justice.

Expected results are:

- Regular community level platforms for sharing relevant information and dialogue with duty bearers on community concerns.

- Increased accountability and better service delivery through advocacy and engagement campaigns carried out by the district women networks.

- Improved coordination and response mechanisms by the duty bearers in addressing community legal and social service delivery concerns.
