Projektziel

The overall goal of the project is to contribute to the prevention of negative impacts for refugees and host communities caused by the refugee crisis in North Uganda

Erwartete Ergebnisse

1. Refugee households and Host Community members, among them Persons with special needs (PSN), have ensured access to safe, nutritious and sufficient food.

2. Refugee households and host communities achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene as well as Non-food Items (NFIs) and use these effectively to maintain health, dignity and well-being. Special attention is paid to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations.

3. Reduced tensions among refugees and host communities through peace building and conflict resolution measures.

Zielgruppe

In total 19,576 Individuals will be reached directly: In Pagirinya Settlement 15,140 and 4,436 in Palorinya Settlement.

In addition, the intervention aims to target communities by radio messages.

Implementing Partners of the Applicant are: Caritas Gulu + German Leprosy Relief Association Uganda.

Beneficiaries are living in 2 districts of Uganda, Adjumani (Pagirinya Settlement, Northern Uganda) and Moyo (Palorinya Settlement, West Nile Uganda).

Maßnahmen

1.1. Trainings on sustainable agriculture, land use management and environmental protection organized and held in Mojo and Adjumani district for refugees and members of the host community.

1.2. Agricultural inputs (seeds, tools) and energy saving stoves provided for farm production, environmental protection and better living conditions.

2.1. Promoters for community hygiene, basis health and disability are trained. 2.2. Basic community sanitation and/or health promotion activities are carried out, tools distributed for the improvement of health, hygiene and living condition.

3.1. Refugee and host community leaders are trained on conflict resolution, peaceful co-existence and trust and peacebuilding interventions implemented.

Hintergrundinformation

The conflict in South Sudan continues to generate profound suffering, as the peace process remains fluid. The infighting has resulted in thousands of South Sudanese refugees fleeing into Uganda and especially West Nile and Northern Regions; Lamwo, Adjumani, Arua, Yumbe and Moyo Districts are the main recipients of the refugees. The Government of Uganda estimates that over 800,000 refugees have fled to Uganda since the beginning of the crisis in 2013. Current refugee influx stands between 400 to 600 refugees per day.
