Projektziel

To contribute to sustaining and safeguarding the lives of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and conflict affected host population in Eastern Ukraine through gender-sensitive and sustainable recovery and rehabilitation measures. The specific objective is that conflict-affected men, women, boys and girls (IDP’s and host population incl. returnees) in Donetsk and Luhansk regions along the contact line in governmental controlled areas (GCA) have improved their health and restored their self-reliance and livelihoods.

Erwartete Ergebnisse

The proposed project will directly support more than 18.000 people and will have an indirect positive affect on 30.600 people.

1. 18.000 individuals (men, women, boys and girls) of IDPs and host population (incl. returnees) have improved their basic health needs

2. 100 individuals of IDPs and host population (incl. returnees) have restored their self-reliance and livelihoods through businesses enabled by small business cash grants

3. 200 individuals of IDPs and host population (incl. returnees) have restored their self-reliance and livelihoods through food self-production enabled by food production cash grants

4. 60 URCS branch staff and community members in Donetsk and Luhansk have improved capacities for gender sensitive and community oriented sustainable recovery and rehabilitation measures

Zielgruppe

The target Group comprises 18.300 individuals (men, women, boys and girls) of IDPs and host population and 60 staff members of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS).

The Austrian Red Cross implements this project together with the Ukrainian Red Cross Society; key project locations are those regions of Donetsk and Luhansk along the contact line in the Government-Controlled Area (GCA).

Maßnahmen

18.000 individuals will be visited and treated by a state doctor to improve their basic health needs

100 most vulnerable individuals will receive cash to establish sustainable small business

200 most vulnerable individuals will receive cash to establish sustainable food self-production

60 URCS staff will receive training on gender awareness and Community Engagement and Accountability.

Hintergrundinformation

The crisis in eastern Ukraine has become protracted. Despite reduced security incidents, ceasefire agreements and a recently started troop withdrawal, the humanitarian situation remains critical. Civilian structures are damaged, disrupting access to lifesaving services. This leaves 5.2 million people affected, in particular along the contact line (20km on each side), 1.3 million people displaced and 3.5 million in need of humanitarian assistance and protection services across all sectors. Households (HHs) living within 5km of the contact line in rural areas, are twice more likely to have a humanitarian need than living in urban areas within 20km.
