Projektziel

The purpose of the project is to strengthen the capacity of 10 LGBT activits/human rights defenders from ADC partner countries to advance civil dialogue on critical issues of social cohesion in the LGBT and human rights movement and to integrate them into the Salzburg Global LGBT Forum’s network.

Expected results:

1. 10 selected participants work with a cadre of thought leaders and practitioners in LGBT rights and social policy to exchange best practice on shared problems and cooperate on solutions at global, national and institutional levels.

2. Global connections for 10 participants are facilitated and new cross-border coalitions are established.

3. New and innovative approaches are encouraged, both within the Forum and among the 10 participants, to support LGBT groups through international exchange.

4. Action plans for making change in specific regional and national contexts are developed.

5. Individual encouragement is provided for LGBT activists at the forefront of the global LGBT human rights movement.

Direct beneficiaries: 10 participants from ADC partner countries who are LGBTI activists/human rights defenders, jointly selected by ADC Cooperation Offices and HQ and Salzburg Global Seminar.

Planned activities: Full scholarships (including travel and accomondations costs) are provided to 10 scholarship holders for participation in the Salzburg Global LGBT Seminar, 14-19 June 2015 in Salzburg, Schloss Leopoldskron.

Background: The marginalization and persecution facing LGBT communities around the world can be defined as the persistent stigma of and discrimination against LGBT persons in a way that suggests an inferior social status, results in unequal treatment, and prevents access to services including social and economic opportunities. At a time when the global LGBT movement and discourse is facing significant and interconnected challenges, establishing, protecting and sustaining socially cohesive societies is a critical issue.
