Socio-economic Development of the Danube Serbia Region - EC Funds

This EU IPA funded project is a comprehensive effort to exploit socio-economic development opportunities for the Danube Serbia Region and indeed for Serbia as a whole by maximizing investments of the private sector, developing accompanying job creation potentials and increasing the attractiveness of the Danube Serbia Region to foreign investors through infrastructure development.
The project has a total budget of EUR 19.5 Million, of which:
- EUR 11 Million will fund infrastructure (rehabilitation and urban infrastructure for Golubac castle; water supply Veliko Gradiste)
- EUR 2.5 Million will fund grant projects for municipalities and other Danube development actors (an additional EUR 1 Million will be funded by Austria)
- EUR 5 Million will go to project management, technical assistance and overheads
The project will result in:
- higher levels of capacity for development management of Serbia’s Danube Region stakeholders, such as municipalities, development agencies, business associations and non-governmental organisations through better coordination, benchmarking their effectiveness and technical support. The project will advance their development initiatives, especially with a focus on improving environmental management and tourism infrastructure
- greater visibility and awareness among national and foreign interest groups about Danube Serbia Region potentials and (investment) opportunities
- a series of implemented grant funded projects that help stakeholders realise their initiatives for the improvement of environmental management, tourism & business promotion and job creation
- the creation of a pipeline of new infrastructure projects, some of which will be prepared to be ready for funding
- two ready constructed infrastructure projects to improve water supply and rehabilitation of cultural heritage as a basis for stimulating private investment
