Kurzbeschreibung:

Projektziel

The project will produce the first comprehensive, qualitative and quantitative evidence base and analytical overview of the role of social institutions on gender equality outcomes in Burkina Faso (BF) using the Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI).

The overall objective is to improve the rights and well-being of women and girls in BF and to advance gender equality through the elimination of discrimination in social institutions.

The purpose of the project is to establish a database and indicators on social norms and gender equality to support national stakeholders in integrating the evidence into future policies targeting gender equality and women’s empowerment. The methodology will draw on the successful country SIGI pilot in Uganda supported by the Austrian Development Cooperation and the OECD’s expertise on gender statistics and capacity building.

Main activities include an in-depth background study of social institutions in BF; at least 6 national technical exchanges and policy dialogue workshops with statistical offices and policymakers to build capacity on social norm statistics for gender equality with at least 90 persons ; at least 2 regional policy workshops and technical exchanges with international organisations and West African government representatives; online social media discussion with civil society organizations; a nationally-representative survey in all 42 districts; a cross-country study of discrimination against women in francophone West Africa accompanied by a regional SIGI report, and a SIGI BF database and analytical report.

Activities will be conducted by the OECD Development Centre in partnership with the Ministry for the Promotion of Women and Gender and the National Institute for Statistics and Demography.

For long-term sustainability and impact, the project will adopt a 2-pronged strategy to promote policy dialogue with key national stakeholders and build technical capacity of national statistical agencies on social institutions.
