Support and assistance to populations affected by the conflict in Northern Mali and displaced to the region of Mopti
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
After having struggled with the food crisis since 2012, Mali is back in the throes of war. The conflict in Northern Mali has caused massive population displacement (both in- and outside borders) and with it food insecurity, high malnutrition rates - especially in children under five, pregnant women and nursing mothers -, poor sanitation and hygiene, and human rights violations which particularly affect children. According to information from the Regional Directorate for Social Development and Economic Solidarity of Mopti (Jan 2013), there are an estimated 40,056 displaced persons - 20,106 women and 19,950 men. Thousands of people are in urgent need of assistance as their rights are being violated and they continue to suffer to the highest degree.
SOS Children’s Villages Mali wants to provide an efficient response to this crisis by launching a support project for the populations affected by the conflict in Northern Mali and displaced to the region of Mopti. The project will provide inter alia food, nutritional, psychological, educational and social care to 11,750 people living in extremely harsh conditions in Sévaré and Socoura. It will provide more specific support to 1,000 displaced households in need of food support, 1,000 malnourished children under five, 300 pregnant women and 1,000 nursing mothers in need of nutritional support, and 700 children (girls and boys) whose human rights have been violated. The project will also facilitate the socioeconomic rehabilitation of 581 displaced persons and the repatriation of almost 1,169 people.
Main components:
1) Distribution of food to target populations defined according to specific criteria
2) Nutritional care for children, pregnant women and nursing mothers in cooperation with health services
3) Development of mechanisms to protect the most vulnerable children and women, with a focus on reuniting those separated from their families
4) Socioeconomic rehabilitation and facilitation to help displaced persons return
