Support for Micorcredit Summit Campaign 2006
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
At the Microcredit Summit held in Washington in Feb. 1997 the participants form more than 137 countries started the Microcredit Summit Campaign with the aim to reach 100 million of the world's poorest families. The Microcredit Summit Campaign brings together microcredit practitioners, advocates, educational institutions, donor agencies, international financial institutions, non-governmental organizations and others involved with microcredit to promote good practices in the field, to learn from each other, and to work towards reaching the proposed goals.
Every year the initiative holds an annual meeting at which papers are presented dealing with current matters in microfinance. The Austrian Development Cooperation has financed some of these papers in previous years. Since these papers are being distributed in the meeting the visibility of the donor is considerable.
This year ADC will fund part of the honorariums, translation, design, printing and overhead costs of the following:
1) Building Country Strategies for Microfinance: What Works for the Poor and Poorest and the Institutions Serving Them
The paper is a guide for policy makers and practitioners in the design of country strategies in different areas of microfinance
2) Commercialization: Overcoming the Obstacles to Accessing Commercial Funds while Maintaining a Commitment to Reaching the Poorest
It often is perceived that in microfinance there exits a trade off between commercial viability and complying with the social mission of poverty alleviation. In the paper this is vitiated and it presents successful institution that achieved both objectives.
