Support to Comprehensive Agricultural Census in Armenia - Phase 1: Pilot Phase
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
The Republic of Armenia has not conducted an agricultural census since independence (1991). The project will support the implementation of pilot agricultural census in the Republic of Armenia through provision of technical assistance and capacity strengthening. After conduction of the pilot census, a fully-fledged national census will start in Armenia in 2014. As project outcome, national systems of data collection, reporting and monitoring are improved. As project output, capacities of national and local institutions to collect, update, analyze and manage sex and age disaggregated socioeconomic data to inform evidence-based analysis and policy making are further developed: 1) the project sampling frame with its comprehensive social, demographic and agricultural information will provide the Government a basis for establishing reliable information systems in the fields of poverty monitoring, food security monitoring, gender statistics, rural community development, an agriculture sector development strategy (e.g. agribusiness) and general policy making. 2) A comprehensive capacity building process in the Ministry of Agriculture is envisaged to facilitate analyzing these data in order to feed back into policy making. For example, the agricultural census will serve for the Ministry of Agriculture as a basis for needs assessments on agricultural inputs such as fertilizers and vaccines, and clarify the situation on informal activities in the agricultural sector.
The Pilot Agricultural Census will take place in 7 communities throughout three regions: Ararat Marz, Kotayak Marz, and in Tavush Marz. Tavush Marz is a target area of ADC in Armenia. Therefore appropriate first hand statistic data will be in place soon for planning of future activities.
