Supporting Communities to Reubild Safer Houses (West - Sumatra, Indonesia)
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
This project is in response to the earthquakes which occurred in West Sumatra, Indonesia at the end of September /beginning of October 2009.
The Government of Indonesia (GoI) has stipulated that all households affected by the earthquake will receive compensation to assist the rebuilding of their homes in 2010. In the interim, the GoI has requested NGO's to support affected communities through the provision of 'soft resources'. To complement the GoI's decision and ensure victims of the earthquake are informed and prepared for the building of their new comes, CARE has proposed to implement a shelter project comprising 3 key components:
¢ Build the capacity of local communities through training in the areas of Disaster Risk Reduction, and Safer Building Techniques.
¢ Provide support for the physical building of safer houses, for instance through building safe model houses.
¢ Development of a sustainable knowledge management system of safe housing to enable communities to easily access information and technical expertise.
Given the need to rebuild safer houses in areas susceptible to natural disasters, all households affected by the earthquake in the 2 target areas of Sungai Garinggin and Batang Gasan will be targeted. Beneficiaries of this project will be 9.500 Households (HH) in each sub district or 19,000 HH in total, including 285 carpenters/masons who will obtain the necessary skills to build 'safer' houses.
