Supporting the Palestinian Private Sector through Job Creation for New Graduates in Jerusalem

The proposed project aims to support private sector companies and institutions through a 50 % cost-sharing scheme for the employment of fresh graduates for a period of six months. This project simultaneously creates opportunities for graduates to integrate in practical work environment through creating direct contact between trainees and employers, which ultimately should increases efficiency and effectiveness of private firms. The project aims at locating training opportunities to university graduates in East Jerusalem based on identified private sector needs.
The current project comes as a critical tool in cooperation between the Jerusalem Chamber of Commerce and the Austrian Development Cooperation to fulfill one of the Chambers key goals of sustaining firms and business organizations in Palestinian East Jerusalem and strenghtening the economic foundation of East Jerusalem. The project's main objective is to create long-term job-opportunities for university graduates in Eas Jerusalem and thus reducing unemployment.
In order to match the graduates with the firms, the Chamber will define selection criteria in cooperation with the Austrian Development Cooperation and select eligible candidates and companies according the the predefined criteria.
The Chamber will create a subsidy system to share the cost of the trainees' salaries, paying 50 % of each trainee's income.
