Winterization for Syrian refugees and host communities in Lebanon
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
Lebanon hosts 1.15 Million registered refugees (with estimations reaching up to 1.5 Million including those un-registered). The situation of refugees is deteriorating, while figures are currently stagnating at very high level. The upcoming winter poses a severe threat to refugees as well as vulnerable Lebanese host population. Winter is severely threatening the health and the economic situation of affected persons.
The project contributes to enhanced health and physical living conditions of Syrian refugees and vulnerable host communities in Lebanon (project goal) by enabling vulnerable Syrian refugees and host community population to better cope with winter-risks and challenging living situation in elevated areas of Lebanon (specific objective).
It integrates into Lebanese Red Cross’ broader winterization assistance targeting 5,000 Households by assisting a total of 780 vulnerable households (3,900 individuals), thereof approximately 80% Syrian refugee and 20% host community households. These households receive monthly fuel vouchers (of USD 100,-) for heating for four months (Dec 2014 – March 2015).
Targeted households are situated in elevated areas (400+ metres altitude) in the districts of Akkar (North Governorate); Baalbek, Hermel, Rachaya, Zahle (Bekaa Governorate) and Hasbaya (South Governorate). They do not receive winterization assistance from other agencies. Amongst these, the project prioritizes highly vulnerable groups (such as female / child headed households, households with individuals with special needs, households headed by elderlies, households with 8+ members, low income / high debt households, and household sharing one shelter with 2+ other households).
