Short Description:
Overall goal
Three separate contracts for capacity development (2104-00-2001, 2104-00-2002 and 2104-00-2004) have been implemented. The fund was instrumental in addressing the quick needs of the main sectors of cooperation. Under these capacity development projects many small and important trainings were undertaken in the main sectors of cooperation. One of the most important activities has been the provision of additional support for the Bhutanese scholars in AIT which covered a book allowance, accommodation and the airfares. With this additional support to the AIT scholarships, so far 32 candidates (between 2000 to 2006) from Bhutan have completed their Master Degree and have rejoined their parent organization.
Under the ongoing Capacity Development Project (2104-00-2006), the Department of Energy has been able to train 12 candidates in various fields, like Power System Analysis (6), Non destructive testing (1), Solar Symposium (2), Training on Gates and SCADA (1), CDM (1), computer operation and etc. All most all the funds have been utilized and the Department of Energy has been very efficient in the utilization of the fund. This project will come to an end by August 30, 2007.
It is very essential to continue the Capacity Development in the Energy Sector and a new Capacity Development Project for 2007/2008 is proposed. The Department of Energy will be the project partner and the target group will be the employees (Trainees) of the Department of Energy/ Dagachhu Hydropower Project Authority/ Basochhu Hydropower Corporation Ltd. In general, the project aims at enhancing individual skills in order to enable these agencies to carry out their responsibilities in a professional manner.
