Overall goal


Das Projekt 'Siraro Woreda Emergency Response Project' wird in der West Arsi Zone, Oromia Regional State, Äthiopien durchgeführt. Geringe Regenfälle während der langen Regenzeit des vorigen Jahres (Juni - September 2007) sowie während der kurzen Regenzeit des heurigen Jahres (März-Mai 2008) haben zu massiver Trockenheit und Ernteausfällen geführt. In der Folge hat sich die Nahrungsmittelversorgung der Bevölkerung massiv verschlechtert. Ein, von lokalen Stellen (FS-DPPO, Food Security - Desaster Prevention and Preparedness Office) im Mai 2008 durchgeführtes Emergency Food Security Assessment weist für den Woreda Siraro ca. 65.000 Personen als massiv von der Hungerkrise betroffen aus. (Bevölkerung gesamt: 150.000). Besonders betroffen sind Säuglinge, Kleinkinder unter 5 Jahren sowie Schwangere und stillende Mütter.


Caritas Austria wird mit der lokalen Partnerorganisation Ethiopian Catholic Church - Social Development Coordinating Office of Meki (ECC- SDCOM) Nothilfemaßnahmen durchführen, um das Überleben der besonders gefährdeten Gruppe von Säuglingen und Kleinkinder bzw. deren Mütter sicher zu stellen. Dies erfolgt durch die Bereitstellung von supplementary food Rationen. Den Vorschlägen des DPPO (Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Office) folgend, werden die Produkte Famix (nutritious product made of Corn Soya Blend), Öl und Getreide an ca. 6.500 Personen ausgegeben.


Die Verteilung erfolgt in 14 der insgesamt 26 peasent associations (PA s) des Woredas Siraro. Selection committees in denen VertreterInnen der jeweiligen peasent associations (lokale Bauernvereinigungen) vertreten sind, wählen die beneficiaries aus. Insgesamt werden 5 Zentren zur Verteilung eingerichtet. Es ist geplant die Verteilung monatlich durchzuführen und zwar in den Monaten Juni, Juli, August und September 2008.
