Eine derzeit von der Schließung bedrohte Schule (Volksschule, Hauptschule und Oberstufe) für über 500 Schüler im Alter von vier bis 18 Jahren in der selbst für nepalesische Verhältnisse wirtschaftlich besonders benachteiligten und infrastrukturschwachen Bergregion Solo Khumbu soll zu einer Musterschule für die gesamte Gegend werden.

In diesem schwer zugänglichen Himalayagebiet, wo es weder Elektrizität noch adäquate Bewässerungsanlagen gibt, sind nicht nur Zentren für medizinische Basisversorgung rar, sondern es mangelt vor allem an qualitativ hochwertigen Bildungseinrichtungen.

Die im Dorf Jubu gelegene "Himalaya Secondary School" soll nicht einfach eine Finanzspritze erhalten, sondern modernisiert und ausgebaut werden - um insbesondere der hohen Drop-Out-Rate entgegenzuwirken. Unter der Ägide von FRIENDS ABROAD und der Partnerorganisation abgehaltene Train-the-trainer-Programme für Lehrer sollen dazu beitragen, dass lokal Know-How akkumuliert und in der Folge weitergegeben werden kann. Der Schwerpunkt des Trainings-Module liegt im gesundheitlichen und medizinischen Bereich. Weiters werden an der Schule berufsbildende Kurse initiiert, die den lokalen Ansprüchen des Arbeitsmarktes entsprechen.

Damit wird langfristig nicht nur die Schule zu einem interessanten Bildungszentrum für die Region, das Schüler anzieht und Sponsoren überzeugt - auch dem natürlichen Lebensraum der ethnischen Minderheit der Rai werden auf diese weise nachhaltige Impulse gegeben werden, um die Armut zu bekämpfen und die Abwanderung zu verhindern.

  • Tied/Untied: Untied aid is defined as loans and grants whose proceeds are fully and freely available to finance procurement from all OECD countries and substantially all developing countries. Transactions are considered tied unless the donor has, at the time of the aid offer, clearly specified a range of countries eligible for procurement which meets the tests for “untied” aid.
