Hintergrund:

Ethnische Spannungen führten 1994 zu einem Bürgerkrieg, in dem innerhalb von 100 Tagen 800.000 Menschen getötet und 2 Millionen aus dem Land vertrieben wurden. Nach verschieden Schätzungen gibt es ungefähr 422.000 Waisenkinder, viele von ihnen sind für bis zu 4 Geschwister verantwortlich. Laut UNICEF wurden 95 % alle Kinder in Ruanda Zeugen von Gewalt und Tot, oft von ihren eigenen Familienmitgliedern; es wird vermutet, dass ca. 600.000 Kinder in Ruanda Symptome schwerer Traumatisierung zeigen.

Zielgruppe:

Das Projekt beginnt seine Arbeit in einer Region Ruandas, in der laut UNICEF besonders viele Kinder als Familienvorstände leben - in der Region Gitarama. 76 % der jugendlichen Familienvorstände sind Mädchen. 3.000 jugendliche Familienvorstände werden direkt in das Projekt involviert sein, indirekt werden aber mindestes 18.000 Kinder von dem Projekt profitieren.

Aktivitäten:

Ein Team von SozialarbeiterInnen und fachspezifischen BeraterInnen wird ein Sozialnetz für die jugendlichen Familienvorstände aufbauen, sozial motivierte Dorfmitglieder sollen zu MentorInnen

der Kinder ausgebildet werden - sie werden "Nkundabana" genannt, übersetzt heißt das soviel wie "die, die Kinder lieben". Die 600 MentorInnen werden in der Folge die jugendlichen Familienvorstände in ihrer Entwicklung und bei der Bewältigung ihren Problemen unterstützen. Zusätzlich wird 500 jugendlichen Familienvorständen ein psychosoziales Training ermöglicht, in dem sie den Weg zum Umgang mit ihren schmerzlichen Erfahrungen kennen lernen. Das Projekt wird auch in die berufliche Ausbildung (z.B.

Workshops zu landwirtschaftliche Anbaumethoden, Kleintierhaltung, Schneiderei, Tischlerei, Fahrradreparatur,...) von 750 jugendlichen Familienvorständen investieren, um sie in ihrem Kampf um Lebensunterhalt zu unterstützen.
