Das Projekt ist ein Beitrag zur Sicherung des Rechtes von Kindern auf Familie, zur Bekämpfung der Gewalt gegen Frauen sowie zur Stärkung der Zivilgesellschaft in Belarus.


Das Ziel des Projektes ist, ein Sozialzentrum für Frauen in Mogilev (Belarus) aufzubauen. Das Zentrum soll Unterstützung für Frauen und deren Kinder in schwierigen Lebenslagen im Bezug auf die Einkommenssituation und psychische Verfassung anbieten. Eine Zielgruppe bilden Frauen und deren Kinder, die sich in einer Krisensituation befinden und Schutz vor männlicher Gewalt in der Familie benötigen. Insgesamt sollen ca. 375 Frauen und 800 Kinder direkt unterstützt werden.


Das Projekt wird vor dem Hintergrund der hohen Zahl von Kindern durchgeführt, die in Mogilev Region außerhalb der Familie aufwachsen. 2005 wurden 557 Kinder von ihren Eltern verlassen (70 davon bereits in den Geburtsstationen) und großteils in unzulängliche staatliche Heime aufgenommen. In den meisten Fällen betrifft diese Tendenz minderjährige bzw. alleinstehende Mütter. Außerdem gibt es keine Einrichtungen zum Schutz der Frauen und deren Kinder vor der Gewalt in der Familie. Im Sozialzentrum werden Präventions- und Interventionsmaßnahmen zur Unterstützung der betroffenen Frauen und Kinder gesetzt.


Das Sozialzentrum wird aus zwei Einrichtungen bestehen: einem Krisenzentrum für Frauen in schwierigen Lebenslagen (Crisis Centre) und einem Frauenhaus zum Schutz gegen Gewalt in der Familie (Women`s Shelter). Angeboten werden sichere Unterkunft, sowie soziale, psychologische, pädagogische und rechtliche Betreuung. Zu den Aktivitäten gehören außerdem Seminare in Belarus, ein Studienbesuch in Österreich, Öffentlichkeitsarbeit und Publikationen.


Das Projekt wird durch die Volkshilfe Österreich in Kooperation mit dem SOS Kinderdorf International durchgeführt, womit die Synergieeffekte genutzt werden.
