Projektziel

The project's intended impact is: Adolescent girls and boys and communities take action on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning through education, enhanced local governance, human and institutional capacity development.

The expected outcome of the project is: Adolescents become resilient agents of climate action and solutions contributing to create socially and environmentally sustainable communities in Armenia.

Erwartete Ergebnisse

The project's expected outputs are:

Output 1: The education, environment and other relevant authorities at the national and local level have adopted evidence based/new gender and child/adolescent specific teaching/learning content, technical guidelines, methodologies and tools on climate action and resilience.

Output 2: The capacities of local and sub-national authorities, school administrations, teachers, and adolescent girls and boys in implementing climate action are strengthened.

Output 3: Adolescent girls and boys undertake tangible and lasting measures for climate action, adaptation and resilience building in consolidated communities of Armenia.

Output 4: The local governments of consolidated communities implement child/adolescent and gender-sensitive climate actions as part of their local development planning practices.

Zielgruppe

The project will directly target, and benefit 28,058 adolescents aged 12-18 (13,504 girls and 14,554 boys alike, including approximately 174 girls and boys with disabilities, as well as adolescent girls and boys from vulnerable groups (from poor households, ethnic and other minorities, etc.) and engage them in exploring the impact of climate change on their wellbeing. 2,470 school teachers and administrators (2,100 female, 370 male), 520 consolidated community staff and 10 regional administrators will be trained on learning methodologies on knowledge, skills and capacities to create safer environments for children and adolescents and enhance the resilience of communities against climate induced hazards (the total number of direct beneficiaries is 31,058).

Maßnahmen

The project includes four clusters of activities:

1) Development/revision of various climate change methodologies, learning materials and change in school curricula;

2) Capacity development of target groups (adolescents, teachers, community leaders etc.) on climate action;

3) Engagement and empowerment of adolescent girls and boys on climate action;

4) Planning, budgeting and implementation of local climate actions.

Hintergrundinformation

Adolescent girls and boys in Armenia are exposed to poverty, climate and environment conditions that impact their lives negatively. Armenia’s climatic conditions are anticipated to change over the next century, thus climate change action needs to be taken now.

Traditional classroom teaching is constraining adolescent girls and boys who are not educated in an inclusive environment that is aligned with 21st century realities and are not enabled to voice their opinions and participate in the development of their communities.
