Contribution to the Federation Emergency Appeal: Iraq Population Movement 2015
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
Iraq faces major humanitarian challenges due to the armed conflicts that originally started in Anbar province in January 2014. Approx. 1.8 million Iraqis have been internally displaced persons (IDPs) and are facing dire humanitarian consequences. The appeal to which this grant contributes outlines the continuation and amendment of the former IFRC emergency appeal launched in June 2014.
The IFRC is now appealing for a total of 19.1million CHF (approx 18,. mio. EURO) to deliver assistance to approx. 500,000 people (IDPs and Syrian Refugees) until the end of 2015. The assistance includes:
1) Shelter and non-food items (NFIs), which include winterization kits and vouchers for clothes.
2) Food security, i.e. provision of monthly food parcels of affected households.
3 )Water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, e.g. providing baths and latrines, safe and sufficient water, and ensure displaced people can observe proper hygiene.
4)Health, including mobile health teams to the many IDPs who live outside camps.
5) Supporting the Iraqi Red Crescent Society in disaster preparedness and management, e.g. training staff in warehouse management, logistics and site planning.
More specifically, the Austrian contribution of 400.000 Euro would enable the IFRC to purchase and distribute:
- 5,800 hygiene kits for 5,800 families (or 29,000 affected people)
- 7,800 first aid equipment for 7,800 families (or 39,000 affected people)
- 3,500 kitchen sets for 3,500 families (or 17,500 affected people).
and would thus benefit a total of 17,100 households or 85, 000 people.
