Projektziel

Based on the development experience of the Pakistani NGO Frontier Primary Health Care (FPHC) in the area of Mardan and Swabi Districts, in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) of Pakistan, and on the findings of a needs assessment of the refugee communities made by the Austrian Development Cooperation, this pilot project covers the design and initial implementation steps of an integrated community development project in three Afghan Refugee Camps in Baghicha, Gandaf, and Kagan. The project activities cover the following areas:

- Institution building by diversifying, upgrading and overall strengthening of the management and implementation capabilities in the area of social and economic development of FPHC, the national implementing NGO

- Institutional strengthening and upgrading of relevant processes and of the physical and non-physical infrastructure of the three refugee communities

- Community building and networking

- Systematic promotion of gender equality

- Education and training

- Promotion of income generation

- Support for the various forms of human security and conflict transformation, including the reduction of gender based violence.

The support to the Afghan refugees in the above mentioned areas and related activities will lead to overall poverty reduction and to increased physical and non-physical human security.

Community development and activities to generate income for the refugee population, especially for women and girls, are expected to bring about higher security for the individuals, the families and communities. They will open safe options for the refugees for their repatriation to Afghanistan.

The strategic approach is based on the principles of participation, empowerment and gender equality.
