Projektziel

The overall goal of the project ist to contribute to the livelihood recovery of drought-affected smallholder farmers in the woredas of Ebinate, Lay Gayint, Tach Gayint and Simada in order to prevent further asset depletion and food shortages.

Erwartete Ergebnisse

The expected results the project aims to achieve are:

1. The availability of sufficient quality seeds (such as teff, wheat, barley, haricot bean, chickpea and lentil seeds) for targeted households for self-sustaining agricultural production during the Meher season 2016 is assured.

2. Enhanced capacity on good crop growing practices of targeted smallholder women farmers.

3. Enhanced agricultural production and productivity of targeted smallholder farmers.

Zielgruppe

Target groups, geographical location and local partners: the number of direct beneficiaries of the ADC funded action will be 15,172 vulnerable households (75,860 people) residing in Amhara Region, South Gonder Zone, specifically in Ebinate, Lay Gayint, Tach Gayint and Simada woredas. The project will be implemented by CARE Ethiopia, in collaboration with local government authorities and agricultural experts.

Maßnahmen

The goal of this action will be reached through the provision of 327.5 metric tons of suitable crop seeds such as teff, wheat, haricot bean, chicpea and lentil seeds) to a total of 15,172 small-scale farmer households (75,860 people) and through training on good crop growing practices to 200 women - who are also recipients of these crop seeds. Meetings with all stakeholders for discussions and learning will take place to ensure accountability.

Hintergrundinformation

A drought due to the El Niño phenomenon is currently impacting 10.2 million people in various regions of Ethiopia. South Gonder, located in Amhara Region, is one of the areas most affected and was therefore selected for this action.
