Hintergrundinformation
The impacts of several years of intermittent partisan violence in the provinces of the central region -Sofala, Manica and Tete - have resulted in political disagreements and disputes over both national and regional issues between the two main partisan adversaries.
The EU’s proposed Action Document for Support to the consolidation of peace through local governance and early economic development in Mozambique under the Annual Action Programme 2020, financed under the 11th European Development Fund, in favour of Mozambique, therefore outlines two inter-related Specific Objectives:
1) Specific Objective 1: Strengthening local governance for peacebuilding and decentralisation;
2) Specific Objective 2: Early economic recovery and immediate peace dividends.
The EU foresees indirect management under objective 2 with the Austrian Development Agency in the Province of Sofala.
