Projektziel

Despite the evident economic growth and improvements in strengthening democratic and legal institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), social deprivation, discrimination against women, unequal access to resources and feminisation of poverty remain some of the greatest challenges of BiH.

The Gender Action Plan (GAP), a 5-year strategy for gender mainstreaming in BiH adopted by the Council of Ministers in Sept. 2006, aims at contributing to increased level of gender equality in BiH society. The GAP defines strategies and sets out objectives for realization of equality between women and men in 15 areas.

The GAP is in line with all relevant national and international legal documents on gender equality (e.g. CEDAW, Security Council Resolution 1325, EU directives, Beijing Declaration, MDGs).

The Fund for the Implementation of the Gender Action Plan (FIGAP) is set up to support public institutions and bodies involved in the implementation of the GAP.

Activities include strengthening their human and material resources, as well as developing and strengthening partnership between institutions responsible for achieving gender equality at regional, state, and international level.

The following development results are pursued:

- More women politicians and in more powerful position (all political positions at all levels of BiH state and entity)

- Improved economic position and situation of BiH women and other marginalised groups (focusing on the public and private labour market, access to economic rights)

- Improved social position of women and other marginalised groups (focusing on diminished violence, cultural perceptions of men and women's roles and status, education and health).

In order to reach end users, gender mainstreaming will also be carried out at the local level and with non-institutional partners (municipalities, NGOs, academic community).

The FIGAP is financed by the Government of BiH and 4 Donors (Sida, DIfD, SDC and ADA) in an amount of EUR 5,4 Million.
