Projektziel
The subject of this assignment is the conduction of a participatory Gender, Social and Environmental Impact Analysis (GSEIA) and the development of a Management and Sustainability Plan (MSP). The findings and recommendations of the GSEIA and the MSP will inform and guide the implementation of the EU Delegated Cooperation project “Strengthening the water supply and sanitation infrastructure in rural areas focusing on safe wastewater disposal in the town of Cantemir”.
Erwartete Ergebnisse
The GSEIA and MSP will make sure that the project complies with the ADA standards governing gender, social and environmental aspects as defined in ADA’s Environmental and Social Impact Management Manual (ESIMM). This should assure that any substantial negative environmental or social impacts are avoided or mitigated while environmental benefits are optimized and gender equality and social inclusion enhanced.
Zielgruppe
Citizens and representatives of the town of Cantemir will strongly be involved in the assignment by providing the needed information and participating in relevant meetings and surveys.
Maßnahmen
- Baseline analysis of the gender and social situation and the environmental state of the area
- Thorough gender, social, environmental and sustainability impact analysis (GSEIA) covering all project objectives, outputs and activities
- Findings and recommendations of the GSEIA and provision of clear action points and sustainable mitigation measures during the entire project life cycle in the form of a management and sustainability plan (MSP) with a clear timeline, assigned responsibilities and budget costs and allocations
Hintergrundinformation
The town of Cantemir receives support from Austrian Development Agency and European Union for realisation of the project "Strengthening the water supply and sanitation infrastructure in rural areas focusing on safe wastewater disposal in the town of Cantemir". The project is planned to be implemented in the period 2017 – 2021.
The water supply system in Cantemir has been rehabilitated with the support of ADC in between 2006 and 2009. Since the rehabilitation of the water supply system the utility is providing high quality drinking water to the whole population by treating surface water from the Prut River.
The wastewater disposal in Cantemir was organized in the 1960s with the construction of the presently existing sewer system and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). Since the 90’s the WWTP is not properly operating anymore.
