The proposed project builds upon the results of ICIMOD's previous activities in the field of beekeeping under the "Himalayan Honeybee Projects" supported by the Austrian Government (ADA) since 1993.

This last phase will upscale the successes achieved so far, cover all eight ICIMOD regional member countries (RMCs) in the HKH region and focus more on poverty reduction and on increasing agricultural productivity and conserving biodiversity.

Under the overall project objective 'to enhance the resilience of mountain people to manage the effects of global change', the project's main purpose is 'to increase the income of mountain men and women by promoting the value chains of bee products and pollination services through the building of human and institutional capacities and regional cooperation'. The project will assist ICIMOD's regional member countries to develop quality standards, policy instruments, and to upscale existing successful activities to develop pro poor value chains for honeybee products and services.

Project activities are structured into six main sections, namely, the development of pro poor value chains for bee products and services, the facilitation of an enabling environment for national honey trade policy, the strengthening of networks for information sharing, development of curricula on apiculture for technical institutions and universities, pollination and ecosystem services and support for national upscaling initiatives.

ICIMOD will implement the programme in collaboration with partner institutions in the participating countries.

  • Modalität: definiert die Art der Hilfe (z.B: Sektorbudgethilfe, Kernbeiträge an multilaterale Institutionen, Projekthilfe, Technische Assistenz (personelle Hilfe), Bildungsarbeit im Inland, etc.)
  • Sektor: bezeichnet den wirtschaftlichen oder sozialen Sektor des Partnerlandes, welcher mit dem Projekt/Programm unterstützt wird.
  • Tied/Untied: Ungebundene (untied) Hilfe ermöglicht dem Projektpartner im Entwicklungsland - unter Befolgung der lokalen Beschaffungsregeln - freie Entscheidung über die Herkunftsländer im Zuge der Beschaffung von Dienstleistungen und Waren. Gebundene (tied) Hilfe verknüpft die Hilfsleistung auf die Beschaffung aus dem Geberland oder aus einem eingeschränkten Kreis von Ländern.
