Projektziel

The present livelihood programme targets the persistent exclusion of women with disabilities, single mothers, widows, mothers of children with disabilities or wives of men with disabilities from the job market in the Centre-Nord region of the country. It aims at improving life chances by fostering socio-economic inclusion whilst at the same time also breaking the stigma and discrimination associated with these groups’ perceived unproductivity.

Erwartete Ergebnisse

The following results are expected:

1. Women belonging to the most marginalised groups are trained and supported in strengthening their vocational skills set to improve their livelihoods;

2. Local communities show an increased knowledge and understanding of the economic potential of women;

3. Two local vocational training centres in the area are more inclusive and have increased knowledge and understanding of gender equality and the intersectionality between gender and disability.

Zielgruppe

The main direct beneficiaries will be 400 women who will be trained through long-term formal or short-term informal trainings and who will be supported in setting up and managing their Income Generating Activities. Furthermore, the project activities will directly benefit, the management and teaching team of the training centres (approx. 14 between men and women) and the members of 4 local Disabled People Organisations. All in all, at least 450 people will directly benefit from the project.

Maßnahmen

Building up on the findings of the inception phase, the consortium partners will have a support and facilitator role in accompanying and promoting the necessary capacity development changes. All measures will be based upon needs expressed by the stakeholders. The project adopts a comprehensive approach addressing the needs at 2 levels:

1. Individuals: fostering women’s learning to strengthen livelihood;

2. Enabling environment: fostering learning by the local training institutions and local Disabled People Organisations, raising awareness with local authorities and institutions.

Hintergrundinformation

In the Burkinabè society, women are still seen as a private property of their father or husband and those who do not benefit from the ‘protection’ of a male family member such as women with disabilities, single mothers, widows, mothers of children with disabilities, wives of men with disabilities etc, are often discriminated and rejected from their families and the broader communities.

The main implementing partner will be the local development organisation of the catholic church, OCADES Caritas Kaya with the technical support of the international organisations Light for the World (Lead Applicant) and Caritas Innsbruck (Co-financing partner), long-lasting partners of the implementing organisation in the area.
