Support towards local level consultation and participation for REDD readiness in Ethiopia
Kurzbeschreibung:
Projektziel
Reducing green house gas emission from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD) is, in view of climate change and related challenges for development, a global concern. The World Bank is supporting several developing countries including Ethiopia in this regard through its REDD-Readiness initiative. The initiative involves a strategic approach to REDD and the development of a national REDD-plan to access international climate change finance.
This project - with funding from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management - supplements the REDD-Readiness initiative in Ethiopia. The proposed financial support allows the Ethiopian Environmental Protection Authority to carry out regional and local consultations to improve participation of government departments, local organisations, forest dwellers and forest dependent people in the REDD-planning process, specifically in North Gondar Zone of the Amhara Region.
As a result the project will increase the relevance of the future national REDD plan for this particular region. It will also promote synergy to the region's Sustainable Resource Management Programme that has been supported by the Austrian Development Cooperation since 2008.
