Projektziel


Rolpa district is one of the poorest districts in Nepal with an extremely low health status, especially in rural areas of the district. Target group is the total population of Kotgaun sub-district (4.474 persons, 800 households). The project will improve its health status by reducing the morbidity rate of water borne diseases (project objective). Special focus will be laid on the empowerment of women and on capacity building for the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS).

The project will reach its objective through an integrated approach of 5 results: 1.) Health education of target group about the reasons and prevention of the most common diseases (public health classes, house-to-house sessions, theatre plays, etc.), 2.) Provision of safe drinking water schemes, latrines and other sanitary facilities (washing platforms, improved cooking stoves, garbage pits, animal sheds), 3.) Strengthened capacity of NRCS (technical and managerial trainings) and targeted communities to maintain the constructed water and sanitation facilities (technical maintenance teams, maintenance fund), 4.) Improved status of women as the main responsible for family health (campaigns for empowerment of women, Self-Help groups) and 5.) Institutionalised sharing of lessons learnt.

The project complies with the Three Year Interim Development Plan 2007-09 of the Nepali government, the Country Strategy Paper of the European Commission and the Three Year Programme of the Austrian Development Cooperation 2007-10.
