Projektziel

The project aims to enable Syrian refugee and host community families to better cope with challenging winter conditions in elevated areas of Lebanon.

Erwartete Ergebnisse

The expected result is that 880 families have improved capacity to cover priority basic needs during winter season.

Zielgruppe

The selected households are situated in elevated (500+ metres altitude) and low-temperature areas in the Governorate North, Bekaa, Mt. Lebanon and South. The project prioritizes most vulnerable households, not receiving winterization assistance from other agencies. The Lebanese Red Cross (LRC), with a total of more than 200 staff and 7,000 volunteers, will be the implementing partner of the project in close coordination with other Red Cross partners and UNHCR. The project is integrated into LRC's larger winterization and relief programming.

With the Austrian contribution 880 households (4.400 individuals), whereas 80% are Syrian refugees and 20% the Lebanese host population, receive monthly fuel vouchers (USD 100) for heating for 5 months (Nov 2015 – March 2016).

Hintergrundinformation

Lebanon currently hosts 1.15 million registered refugees and is facing severe economic, infrastructural and social challenges. The upcoming winter poses a severe health and economic threat to the vulnerable refugees, most of them accommodated in low quality shelters, as well as vulnerable Lebanese host population especially in elevated areas of Lebanon. Refugee and host population families are applying more adverse coping strategies (including buying food on credit, withdrawing children from school and begging), at times involving high risk activities and turning to criminality.
